Nunhead beech side chairs

Nunhead beech side chairs

The centrepiece of this very special pair of side chairs is the wonderful Nunhead spalted beech that forms their seats. Spalting is caused by a fungal ingress that, if left unchecked, will eventually lead to full decomposition of the tree, but if caught early enough results in wonderful colours and figure in the timber. This example is particularly spectacular!

Underneath the seat, the curved crinoline stretcher formed of a single piece of steam-bent ash gives the chairs a strong sculptural form, emphasised by the striking black-on-red milk paint finish given to the rest of the chair.

These are for sale individually, but make a perfect duo and are available at a discounted rate for the two. Please contact me for details
