Make a bar stool
Make a bar stool
This new course will be held over six Tuesday evenings and result in the creation of a beautiful bar stool.
You’ll learn how to cleave and shape green (unseasoned) timber to create the legs and frame for the stool using a variety of traditional woodworking tools such as the drawknife and spokeshave. Using further old-school tools such as the adze and travisher, you’ll learn how to sculpt the seat of your stool to a comfortable saddle. In the assembly stages, we'll explore some traditional joinery techniques which you’ll use to put the stool together and ensure it never comes apart again. The end result will be an elegant and bar stool that will perfect for relaxing at your breakfast bar or even real bar if you're lucky enough to have one in your home!
This course is aimed at beginners as well as those with some previous experience. As the end product will be made predominantly with hand tools, expect a reasonable degree of physical exertion, although it’s certainly more enjoy than a boot camp!
Please note that although my workshop is COVID-secure and employs the necessary social distancing and other measures to ensure the safety of students, all course dates are subject to the prevailing virus regulations in force at the time. If changing government rules require courses to be postponed, I will work with individual groups to ensure the course is delivered as advertised at the earliest possible opportunity.
Course cost includes:
Materials for the legs and framework of the stool will be provided, but there will be an additional charge for the seat timber – usually in the range of £25-40 depending on what’s available at the time.
Please note that course bookings are non-refundable unless cancellations are made at least a month before the start date. Requests to change dates can sometimes be made depending on availability of places. For my full terms and conditions, click here.
